Nice result in the cold cold Eiffel!
Coming up to the busy October month, in which the season will be rounded up with the three remaining races, there was a major change made to the car. For the Friday test a new shock package was mounted to see if this will help the MSpeed squad in scoring even more podiums. This is an essential part for the cars behavior and so really important. At the arrival in the Eiffel mountains it was cold! At some places the cars already had frozen windows and during the day the temperature was not much better. The fall had definitely arrived here..
On Friday the test session was used to find an optimal set-up for the race. Marco Seefried and Nick de Bruijn used the entire session to find the right set-up and a decision to use the shocks for the race was quickly made. This would help them in getting a better result and the hopes were high for the race the day after! On the Saturday morning it was up to Nick to fine-tune the set-up so that the car would be perfect for the later qualifying run. After Norbert Fischer it was Marco we was allowed to go for it all the way. The track was clear and new rubber was mounted. Marco managed to set a very good lap time which was good for P4 for the race later on the day. It was the best starting place of the year and so the MSpeed team was very satisfied!!
For this race it was Marco’s turn again to do the first stint. At the start he lost a few positions at fell back to P6 behind the Astra DTM. After a good pit stop in which they overtook the Astra it was Norbert’s turn to do his job. After doing a very reasonable short stint it was Nick who took over the wheel. After the pit stop the car fell back to the eleventh spot and so it was needed to push hard from lap 1. During his stint Nick managed to climb back up to sixth and even run fifth for a short while. While fighting for this position he had to come in for more fuel and a last driver change. It was a long hard stint which was overshadowed by a big crash which took over 6 laps to clean up. This prevented good lap times, but of course everyone had to deal with this. The driver was cut out of his car and flown away by a helicopter that was waiting close by. It is out of respect everyone will take easy around this part of the track. When Marco took over the wheel he managed to drive the car home in seventh place. A nice result that gave P2 in class. The podium could be visited again and so it was a good start of the October month!!
Nick said after the race; “It was pushing from the moment I entered the track and the competition has never been this though. Even the BMW factory showed up with their new GT2 car. I was able to gain a lot of time of the people in front of me, but had to take easy around the section with the big accident. This of course counts for everyone. You never know what is about to happen over there and the officials deserve this kind of respect. Still it was a good race and we can look back in a positive way. I am looking forward to the next race which will take place in two weeks!!
