FINALLY TOP-10

Everything was new for Nick last weekend; a new team, a different car, different team mates, a whole new work surrounding. The only thing remaining the same was the tarmac running thru the Eiffel. For Nick it was a weekend with a lot of kilometers, in the end giving him his first top 10 position. Friday was the first day for him to try out the Porsche 997RSR during practice. Everything went really well until a huge hearth raising thing occurred. The right rear tire punctured while doing 270kmh!! Luckily for the team there was no harm done to the car and so preparation could begin for the race the following day.

During qualifying Norbert Fisher and Nick did their mandatory laps and it was up to Marco Seefried to make the final qualifying run. The team waited until the end of the one and half hour session before they sent out Marco when the track would be clear. He managed to stop a very good time and P9 would be the starting position for the race later on the day.

The start of the race was taken care of by Marco and he pushed it from the moment the lights went off. He was doing a really good job and even managed to enter the top-5 for a moment, but a small spin caused him to lose a few positions. During the pit stop Nick took over the wheel and the Porsche was filled up with fuel. The fueling took slightly to long and so the Phoenix Audi r8 managed to slip by and reenter the track in front of the number 120 MSpeed Porsche. Nick;”In the corners we were a lot quicker than the Audi, but every time we were trying to overtook him he closed the door or nearly pushed us off the track. On the straight lines the Audi showed great speed and it was not possible to follow him in his slipstream. It was too bad as we were losing time driving behind him.” Four laps into Nick’s stint there was a code red. The race was stopped due a huge accident for two hours. In these two hours some teams made their long stop and could jump in front of the MSpeed team. At the restart Nick was able to hang on, but could not join the fight to move up the field. After 9 laps he entered the pit from P10 and handed over the steering wheel to Norbert. From the moment leaving the pit, Norbert pushed and managed to hold on to P10. It was a very nice performance of the whole team in general and everyone could be satisfied.

Nick told;”It was my First top-10 in the VLN-championship and even could have been a bit better, but the red flag situation came at the wrong moment for us. This gave some cars the opportunity to catch up and even overtake us in the classification. I am still very happy with the result, it was just great to be back in a car again and it doesn’t get much better than driving a Porsche 997RSR. It is just a beast that only wants to perform! Every lap I found some places where I could improve, the car has so much potential. In two weeks there is the next race already and I hope again to be back behind the wheel to improve last weekend’s results.”
