Solid Performance!!
Nick de Bruijn succelsfully participated in last weekend’s 37th edition of the 24hour at the Nurburgring. A massive 245.000 people came to the Eiffel Mountains to watch the field of 180 cars do their laps, around the World famous Nordschleife. Most already came to the track on Monday waiting on the cars to start doing their laps and enjoy the spectacle while having barbeques and gallons of beer. For Steam-Racing it would be a very good 24hour race, with drivers; Michael Schratz, Jochen Herbst, Evegeny Tsarev and Nick de Bruijn finishing a solid 13th place overall.
Nick has shown his speed and reliability again during the long, hard race: “This is an excellent result made possible by great team work. Everything went really well, there were no driver errors and no technical failures. In total I did 5 stints, all a bit longer than 5 quarters of an hour. The fourth stint of the team was my first. It was just before nightfall and so conditions were getting tricky. I management to stay within 5 seconds of the lap time set by the team as a bench mark, this shown very good consistency. The goal of the team was to finish in the top-15 and we managed to achieve this. This of course made everyone within the team very happy and everyone was full of joy. It is a very special event in which you will find factory teams and people who are just there to make it to the finish. You will find people who have crashed their car and still keep doing their laps. Their turn signals not working anymore, but instead they are using their arm hanging outside the window to point out the direction in which you can overtake them! You had the be very careful in the dark, as you could just not see what was coming in the forests! Though around the camping’s the fires from the barbeques would light up the sky! I never thought off any of these things before and I must admit it is one of my most beautiful racing experiences ever..”
"Like said during the race there is an indescribable atmosphere around the track. The 245.000 people make it a real event, which has so far been underestimated by many people around the world. Don’t forget that more people watch this race then the average Formula 1 event. On Wednesday I wanted to do a lap with a road car around the track, it took me over 3 hours as it was packed with people drinking beer and screaming for burn-outs!! Some of them party straight on for 1 week just wanting one thing; watch races.”
